You see, the thing with Ampthill Downs as an origin for specialty coffee, is that it is very, very unique, especially in the Indian context. Statistically speaking, around 80% of the farming community that comprises Indian coffee growers happen to be smallholder farmers. What that means is, around 80% of all the Indian farmers that cultivate coffee, have no more than 6 acres of arable farmland to their name.

Ampthill Downs, the nomer we’ve adopted in historical reference to the currently named Palani Hills, is one such shining example of smallholder coffee cultivation in the Indian Subcontinent.

In the two years since Subko’s inception, and introduction of Ampthill Downs coffee by Waribok Daribok, the visit of February 2022 was the first ever to the region.
