About The Event: There are many ways to know Bandra. You can walk its tiny lanes and admire the colourful walls. You might greet people you’ve known for years and pick up the community newspaper, Bandra Times. You can look up at Art Deco façades and Portuguese-era churches that mark centuries of change. So what does Bandra look like when all these views are put together?

Shormistha sets out to document exactly this. Her book, Pudding: The Memory Keepers of Bandra, is an anthology of stories from writers, photographers, historians, illustrators and aunties, exploring what makes Bandra so special. Alongside it, she documents the neighbourhood’s old houses on Instagram (@housesofbandra) and writes a Substack on Bandra through her own eyes.

In this lecture, she’ll walk you through her archiving process: why she chose such different mediums, whose perspectives she included, and what it takes to build a holistic record of a changing city!

What to carry: Nothing required. You can bring a notebook in case you want to jot down notes!

What to expect:

  • New ways of seeing Bandra through the eyes of its longtime residents
  • An inside look at how Shormistha archived a neighbourhood across a book, an Instagram archive and a newsletter
  • An intimate conversation with time for Q&A
  • And a chance to pick up a signed copy of her book!

Note: We love your company and would be anticipating your arrival at least ten minutes prior to the starting time. Tickets once purchased are non-refundable.

Venue: Subko at Museum of Solutions, Lower Parel
