About The Process
Gesha (also known as Geisha) is a rare coffee variety that traces its storied lineage to the highlands of Ethiopia, near the Gori Gesha forest, and its global recognition to Panamanian nurseries. Historically synonymous with those terrains, its arrival in the Shevaroy Hills marked a defining moment for the region: in 2016, Prakashan Balaraman introduced the cultivar to his third-generation family farm, Riverdale Estate, demonstrating that the Subcontinent could successfully naturalize one of the world's most prestigious coffees.
Years of adaptation to this terroir have resulted in a profile that still carries Gesha's signature floral and tropical elegance, shaped by the distinct character of its new environment. This lot was processed as a Natural — not from Ethiopia, Colombia, or Panama, but proudly grown in the Subcontinent.
About the Roast
Light Roast: At Subko, a light roast is one that is obtained by dropping the coffee lot at 186°-189°C. These roasts typically showcase a sensory profile that is delicate, floral and tea-like, and fruit-forward. In terms of the Agtron scale, Subko's definition of a light roast lies between the points 89 to 95, with 95 being the lightest version of a light roast.
Cuppers Paragraph
This light natural-processed Gesha from Riverdale Estate is built to showcase clarity and florality — a rare Indian expression of one of the world's most celebrated varieties. The cup opens with juicy pomelo, giving way to a ripe apricot sweetness through the middle. A gentle Earl Grey tea note lingers on the finish, lending a soft floral-bergamot lift. Delicate, tropical, and distinctly elegant — proof that Gesha has found a new home in Tamil Nadu.
